I find another blog tittled Video Baggage related to our discussion this week quite interesting. The following video”Giuliani on public funding of abortion” is in this blog.

  1. It will be interesting to see how Giuliani’s past support of abortion rights will affect his popularity among Republicans. One way in which YouTube is interesting is that it has become an archive of virtually every imaginable clip. Obviously there are copyright issues, but for politicians, every speech or comment is now fair game.

  2. Yes, though I am not very clear about American political system, I think web videoes,to some degree, may change ways of how politics runs. Just as Jenkins, in his “Photoshop for Democracy” observes,it reinvents the political rhetoric,so Presidential election may also have a new form of competition.

  3. I think it will make it easier to magnify “mistakes” made by politicians. The video in which Senator George Allen uses a racial epithet to describe an Indian-American audience member is but one example. The key to this Giuliani video is that one of his opponents put it up in order to weaken his chances in the Republican primary. But I think you’re basically right to note that politcians and their advisors will be competing against citizen-made media.

  4. Yes, you gave a good example and their uses of video to “uglize” their competitor is one way. And I think politicians may also use video to canvass, to have more votes for them. And there may be a video competition.
chutry, I don’t understand why “they will be competing aginst citizen-make media– video.
