Wikipedia Humor

Filed under: Uncategorized — chutry @ 12:59 pm

Just thought you all might enjoy this article about how the TV series, The Office, incorporated Wikipedia into one of its recent episodes and how fans of the show responded by trying to edit a specific Wikipedia entry.

  1. Thank You “Chutry”

It’s a real task in trying to take Wikipedia seriously after reading articles such as “Office Fans Flock to Edit Wikipedia.” Sometimes it seems that “anything goes” on this research tool. Wikipedia entries range from humorous to sheer nonsense. Sometimes the serious side of this research tool materializes in and far-between. In total, this website is entertaining! Like me, others may browse just for the sake of curiosity and Wikipedia continues to grow despite the nonsense in the articles.

  2. But I think we’ll find that, for the most part, the information in Wikipedia is pretty accurate; in fact, it’s arguably more accurate than Encyclopedia Brittanica, for example.

The debate about what counts as knowledge is part of what’s at stake here, and it seems like the Wikipedia administrators are taking their task seriously in protecting the site from vandalism and praks such as the “Office” joke.
